Where to go to in Madrid to make friends with other parents while the kids play

Toddler playgroup

Staying at home with the kids can be fun, but sometimes you might yearn to mingle with other adults during the day. What better time to do this than while your kids are playing? Getting out of the house with them and keeping them active can be as important for the children as it for the parent’s wellbeing.

If you are new to Madrid or are just looking for activities to do with your little ones, don’t fret. There are plenty of options for keeping the little ones entertained while you make friends.

Playgroups take place during the morning and are recommended for kids from infant to age 3 – since that’s the age when most children start school in Madrid.

Good to know before you go:

  • Most playgroups charge a small fee
  • Snacks, juice, and coffee are usually provided, but if your child has food allergies you might want to bring your own snacks
  • Stroller parking can be tight, so keep that in mind if you’re bringing more than one baby
  • Playgroups usually shut down during the summer, but might open their doors if it’s a school festivity. Most accept older kids on those days.

Here is a list of a few of the English-speaking playgroups for mom and kids.

Playgroup was always a day to look forward to, for both the kids and me! Still keep in touch with some of the ladies, 20 years later! Good times.
